Cape Town — The African National Congress (ANC) is gearing up to launch its political manifesto in front of a full house at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
Political parties are gearing to prepare its election campaigns for the upcoming national and provincial elections, which President Cyril Ramaphosa announced would take place on 29 May. The party convened to host a special NEC meeting to finalise the details of its manifesto.
According to SABC News, the ANC National Executive Committee convened a special NEC meeting to finalise the party’s manifesto. Deputy Secretary-General, Nomvula Mokonyane, said it expects a full turnout on Saturday morning, with an overflow planned in a venue adjacent to the stadium.
“The stadium can accommodate 75 000 people seated and 10 000 on the pitch. We have planned for the overflow.” Mokonyane also joined the South African National Civics Organisation (SANCO) Khuluma Mhlali programme as part of mobilising towards the manifesto launch.
She said Ramaphosa is expected to address the masses, no later than 11am.

Accoding to The Witness, Makonyane said the ANC’s manifesto launch will be used to send a message to opposition parties that it is still the strongest party.
Mokonyane was joined by secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula, KZN chairperson Siboniso Duma and the party’s provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo. They said it was all systems go for the ANC mega electoral event.
Neitehr Mbalula nor Mokonyane gave an indication of the contents of its manifesto, but it is widely expected that the party will highlight its achievements since coming into power in 1994. The party is expected to counter the narrative imposed by opposition parties that the ANC has achieved little during their time in power.
The DA, EFF and IFP are still the leading rival candidates to the ANC, but they wiill face a strong challenge, especially in KZN, from former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) party. Experts expect the MK party o get about 24% of the province’s vote in the upcoming general elections.
