Cape Town – The deal between the ANC and the DA is reportedly at risk after the DA’s leadership insisted President Cyril Ramaphosa honour his initial Cabinet position offer made on Tuesday.
According to The Citizen, Ramaphosa revised his offer, substituting the minister of trade, industry, and competition with the minister of tourism, which angered the DA.
Citing News24, the report said that The DA has warned Ramaphosa that if he does not honor the initial offer for Cabinet positions, their agreement with the ANC will be off.
The DA leadership is unanimous in rejecting the revised offer, as they consider the trade ministry crucial to economic policy, unlike tourism, the report said.
This disagreement could delay Ramaphosa’s anticipated cabinet announcement and the formation of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Ramaphosa confirmed he would give the DA six portfolios and seven deputies, with other parties also receiving positions.
The DA initially aimed for 11 Cabinet posts, including the deputy president.
