Cape Town – The ANC has completed its investigation into its poor electoral performance in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, which led to a loss of support and the implementation of a Government of Provincial Unity (GPU).
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is meeting in Boksburg to decide the future of the provincial executive committees (PECs) in these regions.
Three options are being considered: maintaining the status quo, deploying reinforcements to the PECs, or making leadership and organisational changes.
Both provinces saw major losses in recent elections, with Gauteng receiving only 35% of the vote and KwaZulu-Natal 17%.
ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula says the NEC will consider the option to dissolve the KZN and Gauteng structures.
