Cape Town – ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has declared that the ANC is protected by divine power, saying that “no weapon formed against it shall prosper”.
Speaking to supporters in Botshabelo, Free State, Mbalula emphasised the party’s religious roots and claimed the ANC enjoys protection from God and the ancestors.
“This organisation belongs to the ancestors, this is God’s organisation because the ANC was born inside a church led by religious leaders,” The Citizen quoted Mbalula as saying.
He added: “There is nothing formed against the ANC that will succeed because the ANC is the people’s party. Even Isaiah says in the book of books that nothing formed against me which is evil shall prosper.”
Mbalula urged religious leaders to pray for the party and cited biblical scripture to reinforce his message.
He seemingly took a subtle swipe at former leader Jacob Zuma, advising supporters to ignore disruptive elders and stay focused on improving lives.
His remarks came as a new poll showed that support for the ANC has grown in recent weeks, showing promising signs for the ruling party ahead of next week’s elections.
Many analysts had anticipated that the ANC would fall below 50% in the upcoming elections. However, if the ruling party secures close to 50% of the votes, they would still maintain firm control of the country.
The Social Research Foundation (#SRF) daily polling seems improbable.
How does the #ANC gain 7% from 38 to 45 in the midst of endless bad news?
The most plausible explanation is the implosion of #MK, which is in full self-destruction mode. pic.twitter.com/Erj7DxcUNo
