Cape Town — The African National Congress (ANC) and the uMKhonto weSizwe (MK) party are set to go head-to-head in the electoral court in Bloemfontein.
The ruling party wants the court to review and set aside the MK’s registration with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), saying the new party did not follow the due process during its registration for the upcoming elections on 29 May, EWN reported.
The ANC said that, after the MK party’s initial application was rejected because it didn’t meet the requirements, the party then supplemented its application unlawfully, instead of submitting a new one.
The IEC and MK party have said everything was conducted above board, with the new party confident ahead of the court appearance, saying the party will be on the election ballots.
“We’re quite confident that the IEC has done its duty and followed their due process as per the act,” said spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela.
