Tshwane — ActionSA in Tshwane anticipates a new mayor by the end of the week as it prepares to table a motion of no confidence against Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Cilliers Brink.
ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba criticised Brink, saying he would be seen as average if he were part of the ANC.
The DA has governed Tshwane since 2016
Mashaba expressed concerns about the city’s inability to meet short-term liabilities while Brink remains in office, highlighting over R6 billion in debts to Eskom and a growing contingent liability of R1 billion owed to municipal workers due to unpaid wage agreements.
“This shocking statistic highlights the problem; ActionSA finds itself in a coalition with a mayor from a party that lacks a significant constituency in the townships of the city he governs,” he said, according to The Citizen.
He also noted significant disparities in service delivery, particularly between suburbs and townships.
In response, Brink accused ActionSA of causing chaos by abandoning the coalition without a plan, calling their actions deplorable and inconsistent with their prior critiques of the motion of no confidence.
Leaders in Tshwane talk about growth and change, but the facts tell a different story – of a city that fails to meet its performance targets, deliver services, and maintain financial stability.
It’s time to truly turn our capital city around.

According to IOL, the cracks between ActionSA and the DA have now hit further snags, as the DA’s Tshwane caucus leader and chairperson Jacqui Uys, removed all ActionSA caucus members from a WhatsApp group. Uys said ActionSA had publicly ended its relationship with the coalition.
“This WhatsApp group is used to communicate arrangements amongst coalition members and it is important that the group has the correct people on it,” she said.
ActionSA’s Tshepiso Modiba said no reasons were given to its party members as to why they were removed from the group, and speculated that the DA in Tshwane is already conceding that its days are numbered.
Modiba said they were informed that the WhatsApp group name was changed to COT United Opposition, showing a sign of defeat.
As things stand, Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink’s days in office seem to be numbered as ActionSA served divorce papers to its coalition partner, the DA, last Monday.
