Cape Town — ActionSA in Ekurhuleni has praised the decision by Council Soeaker, Nthabiseng Tshivenga, to hold another council meeting to discuss the motion of no confidence against mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana.
In an ActionSA statement, the party’s caucus leader, Siyanda Makhubo, said the it welcomed the decision to reconvene on Tuesday 12 March for another council meeting to debate the notion.
The decision comes after 193 out of the 224 councillors signed a petition for the meeting to happen on 7 March, but councillor Nthabiseng Tshivhenga unilaterally decided to move the meeting to 12 March.
“It is clear the Speaker cannot be trusted to chair another council meeting in which her fighters will simply collapse the meeting once again. Cllr Tshivhenga has from the very beginning of her tenure, been unable to separate herself from her political party, the EFF, and chair council in an unbiased manner,” Makhubo said.
The date has been set for Mayor Ngodwana’s last day in office! Council will reconvene on Tuesday, 12 March at 10:00.

Makhubo said the party insisted the City’s finances needed to be stabilised, and services needed to be delivered to residents as soon as possiblem, stating it would not happen under the EFF’s :the EFF’s “puppet Mayor Ngodwana”
“The EFF in government has been a disaster class in public administration, and their inability to separate party and state represents a very real threat to democratic norms and principles that govern our local municipalities. ActionSA looks forward to political change that will begin fixing the mess the unholy matrimony that this coalition has created in Ekurhuleni.” Makhubo said.
According to The Citizen, National treasury (NT) and the Gauteng government expressed their respective concerns over Ekurhuleni;s financial standing, with claims of hidden finanicial reports and allegations of service providers not being paid.
The ANC in the City of Ekurhuleni was expected to vote with Action SA and other opposition party to oust the mayor. It has become clear over the last few months that the ANC in the region was not pleased by the coalition arrangement including the idea of a proxy mayor.
