Cape Town – Former president Jacob Zuma has returned to the country after receiving medical treatment in Russia.
The Jacob Zuma Foundation announced his return and said that the medical check-up went well, expressing gratitude for the prayers and well-wishes received during his time abroad.
“The JG Zuma Foundation is glad to announce that its patron has recently returned from his medically-related trip to the Russian Federation,” it said.
“The check-up and observations went well.”
It said Zuma’s return is connected to a private prosecution matter in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on August 4.

“His return was also necessitated by the private prosecution matter which will be sitting in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Friday August 4,” the foundation said.
It added: “In terms of the law it is compulsory for the private prosecutor to appear whenever the accused persons appear in terms of the summons or as ordered by a judge.”
The foundation did not mention anything about the pending issue of Zuma’s parole, which has been a subject of controversy after the Constitutional Court ruled that his release on medical parole in September 2021 was unlawful.
Zuma was initially jailed in July 2021 for defying a court order to appear before the Zondo Commission, and his imprisonment triggered widespread unrest in July 2021, resulting in significant damage and loss of life.
