Cape Town –President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that if former president Jacob Zuma wants to remain a member of the ANC, he should be subject to the party’s disciplinary processes.
Zuma is set to appear before the ANC’s Disciplinary Committee next Tuesday, despite his current suspension from the ANC while leading the MK party.
According to The Citizen, Ramaphosa emphasised that Zuma’s insistence on ANC membership necessitates adherence to disciplinary procedures.
“Jacob Zuma maintains that he is still a member of the ANC. As a member of the ANC, he has got to be dealt with through our disciplinary processes.
“He has been saying he will vote for another party, and that adds to the various violations of our constitution,” the reort quoted Ramaphosa as saying during a campaign trail in Nomzamo in the Western Cape on Saturday.
He expressed confidence in the committee’s independence and thoroughness in handling the matter.
Ramaphosa dismissed concerns that the disciplinary hearing would detract from election preparations, affirming the committee’s autonomy.
Meanwhile, the MK party plans to provide Zuma with his own amenities for the hearing due to security concerns.
The party intends to accompany Zuma to the hearing and asserts its mistrust of the ANC’s handling of the situation.
The ANC officially announced on Thursday that Zuma is slated to undergo an ANC disciplinary hearing next Tuesday for breaching party regulations.
