Cape Town – Former South African President Jacob Zuma has reportedly extended his stay in Moscow as the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) deliberates on whether he should return to prison.
Zuma is in Russia seeking medical treatment, but specific details about his illness remain unknown.
According to News24, two sources who have knowledge of Zuma’s trip said that he was meant to return on Tuesday, but that he extended the trip.
The report quoted the Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi as confirming that Zuma had not returned from Moscow.
“I don’t know when he will be coming back,” the report quoted Manyi as saying.
The DCS has not yet made a decision on his fate.

The Constitutional Court had previously dismissed the DCS’s appeal for Zuma’s return to prison, and the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) ruled that he should go back to serve his sentence.
Zuma was originally sentenced to 15 months for contempt of court after refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission.
He was released on medical parole, which was later deemed unlawful by the High Court and upheld by the SCA.
With the Constitutional Court’s decision, the SCA’s ruling stands, and Zuma is expected to return to prison.
