Cape Town – The Pietermaritzburg High Court has denied former President Jacob Zuma’s request to appeal a June ruling that dismissed his private prosecution of State Advocate Billy Downer and Karyn Maughan.
Zuma had initiated this private prosecution based on his allegations that the State had improperly leaked a “confidential” doctor’s note to Maughan during his arms deal corruption trial.
The June ruling found that Zuma’s prosecution had ulterior motives and constituted an abuse of process.
The court has now rejected Zuma’s appeal application, maintaining its original reasoning and conclusions, EWN reported.
It stated that there were no new issues raised and no prospects of success for an appeal.
“We arrived [at the conclusion] that there are no merits in any of the arguments raised by Mr Zuma,” News24 quoted Judge Gregory Kruger in delivering judgment on Monday.
Zuma has been ordered to cover the legal costs.
