Cape Town – Another arrest has been made in connection with the escape of convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester.
Police confirmed the arrest on Sunday.
“Police have arrested a 31- year-old Zimbabwean man in the Thabo Bester matter. The suspect was arrested on Sunday morning in Johannesburg. At this stage, he faces a charge of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody,” police said in a tweet.

The man is scheduled to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
This arrest brings the total number of people arrested in the case to nine.
The incident began when Bester was spotted in a supermarket despite being sentenced to life in prison.
GroundUp’s reporting uncovered that Bester had escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre on May 3, 2022.
In addition, a burnt body was discovered in Bester’s cell, which was later identified as that of Katlego Bereng, a man from the Free State.
