Cape Town – Zimbabwe reportedly wants a seat at the exapanded BRICS table.
The 15th BRICS Summit, which concluded in Johannesburg on Thursday, has invited six more countries to join the grouping – Iran, Argentina, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Ethiopia.
EWN reports that Zimbabwean deputy president Constantino Chiwenga, speaking at a BRICS outreach programme on Friday told delegates he believed Zimbabwe deserved a seat at the table.
“As a country, Zimbabwe perceives how BRICS represents a formidable alliance that fosters a multipolar and inclusive world order. Joining this alliance will provide Zimbabwe with a unique opportunity to collaborate with like-minded nations and harness the benefits of collective strength,” he said.
Meanwhile, back at home in Zimbabwe, results were trickling in after a chaotic two days of voting that saw Emmerson Mnangagwa Zanu-PF’s go up against Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens’ Coalition for Change.
Daily Maverick reported on Friday that the first constituency results were starting to trickle in, after voting had to be extended to a second day after some voting stations were not opened in time the day before.
