Cape Town – A woman who gave birth to a baby girl at King Edward Hospital in Durban believes she was given the wrong baby, despite receiving three separate DNA results confirming her as the mother.
According to SABC, She recalls giving birth to a healthy baby girl, but nurses took the baby away to clean her. Hours later, they returned and informed her that the child had died. The woman is seeking answers regarding what really happened to her baby.
Khumbuzile Bhede, the mother, experienced a traumatic ordeal when she expected to welcome a new family member. After delivering her baby girl at the hospital, she only saw her baby briefly before the nurses took her away. The following day, she was informed that her baby had died, leaving her with numerous unanswered questions.
Despite three DNA tests confirming the deceased baby as hers, Bhede remains suspicious and believes that she is being pressured to accept a baby that is not hers. She was also denied the opportunity to see her baby before it was taken to the mortuary, which she finds suspicious.
Bhede has been awaiting an autopsy report from the police since March, and an inquest has been opened by the authorities. The KwaZulu-Natal Health Department is conducting its investigation but cannot comment due to the ongoing police investigation. The police are also awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of the baby’s death.
