Cape Town – A KwaZulu-Natal woman was reportedly shot dead in front of her 2-year-old granddaughter over the weekend.
A gunman reportedly walked into the Ginger Road family home in Waterloo on Saturday morning and shot at the 41-year-old woman.
The woman died instantly after sustaining gunshot wounds to the head and shoulder.
According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the police were investigating, News24 reported.
The woman’s two children, aged 19 and 24 managed to escape the scene through the bedroom window, said Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) in a statement.
“According to the deceased’s daughter, she heard a man questioning her mother about the whereabouts of her children. She exited her bedroom and saw the suspect pointing a firearm at her mother. She (the woman) screamed and asked her daughter to flee when the gunman opened fire. The siblings broke a bedroom window and climbed out of the house,” read the statement.
The woman’s 19-year-old daughter suffered a deep laceration to her left forearm from a broken window glass as they fled the scene, while the gunman walked away from the scene.
