The individual suspected of being the assailant reportedly committed suicide.
The incident involved a domestic violence dispute between a couple at Mhinga village RDP houses, according to police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Rolentia Chauke, was found with her hands tied and a wound on her face.
“Members of the emergency medical services were summoned to the scene but she was certified dead on their arrival,” Mashaba said.
