Cape Town – A 32-year-old woman from Soweto is on the run after allegedly attempting to kidnap a child while moving out of a communal house.
The child’s mother, also a tenant, discovered her missing child inside the woman’s travel bag, with hands and feet tied and a cloth in her mouth, police spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
“The mother then started searching for the child. She thought of searching the woman’s bags and the child was found inside one of the travelling bags, with her hands and feet tied up and a cloth tucked inside her mouth,” he said.
The woman fled, prompting a manhunt.
A voice note in community groups mentioned the child being in serious but stable condition at Lenmed Hospital, possibly drugged.
“There was an e-hailing car at the gate already when the mother realised something was wrong. She apparently told the driver that he would not go anywhere until her child was found,” it said.
There are suspicions of a connection to Muthi murders, and a warning was issued for caution when living in a commune.
