Cape Town — A 54-year-old mother and her 21-year-old son appeared in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court after they assaulted their daughter and sister for failing to withdraw a case against her rapist boyfriend.
The two face charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and labelled the woman as “heartless, selfish and stupid” for not withdrawing the case against her boyfriend, who was sentenced to two life terms by the High Court in Pretoria for raping their 11-month-old baby, IOL reported.
““It is alleged that on March 8, 2023, a 36-year-old daughter to the mother, visited her sister in Mooiplaas informal settlement to tell her about the outcomes of a case where her boyfriend was sentenced to two life terms by the Pretoria High Court for raping their 11-month-old baby,” said Lumka Mahanjana, Gauteng spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

It is believed that the daughter went to the spaza shop to buy chips, and upon returning, found her moth sitting outside her sister’s shack. The mother confornted the daughter about the case, but the daughter said she was unable to attend court because she did not have any tax fare. The ivnestigating officer then called her to update her on the court outcome.
The mother then started berating her daughter for not withdrawing the case against her boyfriend a long time ago. The brother, who was inside the shack, came out and started hitting his sister too. The daughter escaped and ran to the police station to report the incident.
The following day, on Saturday, the mother and son were arrested at their residence in the Mooiplaas informal settlement. During the court appearance, the case against the mother and son was remanded to Thursday for bail investigations.
