Cape Town – A woman in George in the Western Cape, who was apprehended in connection with a human trafficking case, will be in custody throughout the holiday season.
The Hawks arrested a woman, Nontobeko Mathunjwa, on Saturday following information about the alleged trafficking of three young girls from West Africa to South Africa in a shipping container a few months ago.
The victims, allegedly advertised on an escort website, were found in a residential complex in George.
The suspect, reportedly the caretaker of the premises, has been remanded in custody.
The victims, aged between 21 and 47, were rescued, given medical assessments, and are now in a place of safety.
The matter has been postponed to 22 January for a formal bail application.
