Cape Town — Western Cape residents have been urged to brace for cold temperatures this weekend as a cold front sweeps through the province from Saturday morning.
According to The South African Weather Services (SAWS), the Western Cape will have a 60-80% chance of showers and thunderstorms starting on Saturday afternoon, with snow expected in the province’s escarpment near the North Cape, TimesLIVE reported.
“The cold systems are expected to move eastward and reach the Eastern Cape on Sunday evening and, with that, we are expecting, again, an 80% chance of showers and thundershowers along the coast and a 60% chance into the interior,” Tokelo Chiloane said.
She added that the cold front was expected to exit the country by next week, but the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) will experience snowfall this weekend.
Chiloane said the cold front is expected to exit the country by Monday, with the Western Cape expected to reach highs of 14°C in George and 18°C in Cape Town. The cold weather is expected to pass by Tuesday, with temperatures reaching a high of 22°C in Cape Town, with warm weather leading into next weekend.
