Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of 18 individuals who tragically lost their lives in a mass shooting incident over the weekend in Ngobozana village, Lusikisiki.
The shooting, which took place during two separate attacks in the same street, primarily targeted women, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
In a statement, Ramaphosa expressed his deep sympathy for the victims and their families, acknowledging the profound impact of this tragedy on the broader community.
“I feel deeply for all the families and members of the broader community affected by this attack and on behalf of all of us as South Africans, I offer you our deepest sympathies,” he said.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, along with the national leadership of SAPS, is expected to visit the affected families and engage with local residents to address their concerns and provide support in the wake of this tragedy.
This latest incident adds to a troubling pattern of violence, with 38 individuals reported killed in similar circumstances over the past two years. Currently, 25 suspects remain in custody in connection with previous cases.
Ramaphosa reiterated the government’s commitment to justice, saying, “While we are united in our grief, we are also united in our outrage and condemnation of this excessive criminal assault which will not go unpunished.”
He encouraged community members to cooperate with police investigators, emphasising the importance of gathering information that could lead to the swift capture of the attackers.
“We will not allow criminals to prevail,” Ramaphosa concluded, reinforcing the government’s determination to combat violence and ensure the safety of all South Africans.
