Cape Town — South African Minister of Justice, Ronald Lamola, fervently rubbished the claims that South Africa is acting as the legal arm for Hamas, after South Africa presented their case in front of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
South Africa presented their case to the ICJ on Thursday and, in their case, South Africa seeks various orders from the ICJ, including the immediate suspension of Israel’s Gaza offensive, a halt to forced displacement, humanitarian access to displaced Palestinians, and the preservation of evidence. They argued that the ICJ should grant provisional measures to ensure that the lives of palestinians are protected as Israel continues it’s attack on Gaza.
Israel, set to present their case to the ICJ on Friday, believes that South Africa is acting as the legal arm of the Hamas terrorist organisation, and that their case to the ICJ is “one of the greatest shows of hypocrisy in history”, The Citizen reported.
Lamola responded to Israel’s claims, saying they are “baseless” and he added that South Africa were not fighting against Jews, but rather the State of Israel/
“We have presented a case on behalf of South Africa, a number of Palestinians that are being killed in Gaza. We are not presenting any case on behalf of Hamas. So, that statement is baseless, it has got no merit, we do not have any mandate from Hamas.” Lamola said.,
Our case is against the actions of the State of Israel. The actions of genocide that are committed in Gaza. In South Africa we have got a number of Jewish people doing business, living with us, and attending their churches in peace. So, the case is about the State of Israel and not about the Jewish people as a community,” he added.
“We have made our compelling case to the court… We believe this compelling case will enable the ICJ to issue the provisional and urgent injunction against the state of Israel” says Justice Minister Ronald Lamola on SA’s presentation at the ICJ.
