Cape Town – Mzansi is outraged after a video of a woman giving birth outside the closed Burgerfort clinic in Limpopo went viral on social media.
In the video, a number of women are seen surrounding the woman giving birth, as they conceal her with blankets to give her privacy and shield her from onlookers.
The women plead with a nurse in uniform to assist, saying it’s an emergency. The nurse, however, responds and says that no woman has contractions and gives birth immediately.
As the women continue to explain that the case is an emergency, the nurse tells them not to “make noise” because the clinic only opens at 07:00.

Some social media users have been outraged by the video and have called for emergency services such as clinics to remain open 24 hours a day,. Others have raised concern over the safety of nurses should the demand be implemented.
According to Health spokesperson, Neil Shikwambana, the woman delivered 15 minutes after arrival at the gate to the clinic, reported Review Online.
Shikwambana said that the clinic was only a day clinic and an investigation was under way, the report said.
“The clinic stopped operating for 24-hours two years ago because of threats to nurses who worked night shifts. While the department is working with the community and the police to solve issues such as crime, the community is advised to utilise nearby clinics for night emergencies,” the report quoted Shikwambana as saying.
He also advised pregnant women to visit health facilities for antenatal consultations during pregnancy so that they are aware of the facilities they can deliver at in line with the department’s maternal health standards.

Instead of arguing, why isn’t she fast tracking the process of helping?
