Cape Town – A video of looters raiding an alcohol truck in full view of police officers has gone viral on social media.
The video, shared on Twitter by Anti-crime advocate Yusuf Abramjee, shows motorists stopping to loot crates of alcohol from a truck that appears to have been involved in an accident in the presence of two police officers from the Glen Visible Policing.
From what can be seen in the short video, the officers appear to be doing very little to stop the looters who walk off with their loots and pack them in cars.

At one point in the video, a female officer appears to signal to the person taking the video of the incident to move along while another officer appears to be directing the actively looting people.
“I’m going to put this on the news, this is going on the news. Look at the f**king police allowing it,” a man can be heard saying.
Social media users quickly weighed in on the incident, bashing the police for not enforcing the law.
Others, however, suggested that there was nothing much the two police officers could have done in that situation.
Here are some reactions on Twitter
Police watching looters and not acting. SAPS what’s happening?Masemola and Cele act on these police at the scene of the beer truck accident.

The truck was in an accident, there are two or three police officers. What are they supposed to do, threaten to shoot people for stealing beer? Messed up that people are stealing the beer, but I certainly don’t expect two police officers to hold back the tide.

If nothing else, videos such as these, depicting brazen acts of looting, or breaking the law, must be used to atleast prosecute some of the culprits, including SAPS. And the insurance companies should be able to use it to sue SAPS.

@SAPoliceService are admin clerks. They simply do not have the ability to prevent crime. Private security is better trained/ equipped & physically more able. They have lost all credibility with criminals.
