Cape Town – A video of armed men being shot during a hijacking attempt has been trending on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred in Warner Beach in Durban this past weekend.
The video shows a white Toyota Fortuner pulling into a driveway. As the car parks, a silver Mercedes-Benz approaches to block the Toyota from making a getaway. Four men jump out and pull the driver and two women out of the car and begin searching the driver.
Two of the men then seize control of the Toyota while the other two get back into the Mercedes-Benz.
It then appears that out of nowhere, the men who have taken the Toyota, come under fire from a “group of bikers who start firing at the hijackers”. It looks as if the driver of the vehicle is shot, which causes him to lose control of the vehicle and crashes into an embankment next to the road path.

IOL reported that police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the incident took place on December 3, along Kingsway Road in Winklespruit, Durban.
“The police in Amanzimtoti responded to an attempted hijacking. On arrival they found the abandoned vehicle and reports indicated that the suspects lost control of the hijacked vehicle after a bystander reportedly shot towards them. It is further reported that the suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle,” the report quoted Netshiunda as saying.
