Cape Town – Two people, including a pilot, tragically lost their lives in a crash involving a Cruiser Homebuilt Fixed-wing aircraft at Springs Airfield in Ekurhuleni on Saturday.
The aircraft was taking off from the airfield with the intention of returning to the same airstrip when it crashed, resulting in the complete destruction of the aircraft, News24 quoted the spokesperson for the South African Civil Aviation Authority, Sisa Majola, as saying.
Majola said the South African Civil Aviation Authority through its Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID), is actively collecting evidence to determine the extent and details of the investigation.

A preliminary report will be released 30 days after the accident.
The investigation’s duration may vary, potentially taking up to 12 months, with interim statements provided if it extends beyond that timeframe, the Civil Aviation Authority said.
In the event of identifying a critical safety concern, the AIID will promptly issue recommendations to relevant parties to prevent similar incidents.
