Cape Town – A traffic officer in Johannesburg has accused the Douglasdale Police Station of refusing to book recovered goods after arresting five theft suspects.
In a video, the officer expressed frustration, stating that the police station’s actions hindered crime fighting efforts.
In a video posted on Sunday, a visibly frustrated traffic officer alleges that he and his colleagues apprehended five theft suspects. Upon bringing the confiscated items and suspects to the police station, he contends that he was denied authorization to officially register the seized evidence.
“This is why police cannot fight crime. Now I understand why people don’t respect the police, it is because of this behaviour. Everything is happening, we have five suspects and the truck loaded with the stock,” he said.

However, the South African Police Service (SAPS) defended the station, asserting that proper procedures were followed.
The Gauteng police management criticized the traffic officer’s handling of the situation, clarifying that the station advised returning the goods to the lawful owner through SAP 299, as the owner had been identified.
Four suspects were subsequently arrested, with SAPS emphasizing a collaborative approach to crime prevention.
