Cape Town – The case against Matthew Lani, a well-known influencer who portrayed himself as a doctor on social media, has been dropped.
Lani claimed to have medical qualifications from certain institutions, but those institutions denied any association with him.
He was scheduled to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday for the first time, where he was set to face charges related to the impersonation of a doctor.
The Gauteng Department of Health had initiated a criminal case against him, leading to his arrest after he was caught trying to enter Helen Joseph Hospital.
He was supposed to appear in court on charges of impersonating a doctor but was released from custody as the case was not placed on the court’s docket.
