Cape Town – Tweeps have reacted and praised the friendship between Christopher Logan and Thabiso Danca after a video clip of Logan accusing the owner of Hank’s Olde Irish / Love Thy Neighbour pub of blatant racism went viral on social media.
In the video, posted by PSAFLIVE on Twitter, Logan struggles to keep his cool, as he lashes out at the owner of the drinking establishment about an incident whereby the bouncer at the door allegedly prohibited Danca, a black man from entering the pub, and told him that he could not enter the establishment without being accompanied by a white person.
“You do not have a right to discriminate in this country, it is a crime. This is what happened, Thabiso came in here moments after Jordan came in, so your bouncer stopped him and said why are you going in? Who are you going in to?
“You cannot come in here unaccompanied by a white person. If you come in here, I know what you like, you steal and cause trouble, this is what the bosses have told me. It is a crime in this country, do you know where you exist? You exist in South Africa where we have a deeply painful history of this,” Logan said passionately, as he confronted the pub’s owner.

According to The Citizen, the pub released a statement in which they denied that staff members were instructed to disallow patrons entrance on the basis of race or gender discrimination and that a case of assault had been opened against the individuals making accusations in the video.
“We as owners have never discriminated, nor will we ever instruct our staff to discriminate on any basis whatsoever, on the basis of gender, sexual orientation or race,” the pub was reported as saying in a statement.
Social media users had this to say about the incident:
THIS is what being anti-racist and being an ally looks like. A singlet was torn that day. Shout out to this young white guy for calling out Hank’s Olde Irish in Cape Town, known for its jazz nights, for the racist treatment of his friend ? #HumanRights https://t.co/hZ98YQ0A5g

I was ranting to hubby that it feels like despite a number of people speaking out against racism in ?? – there seems to be an increase in racist incidents.
His response:
“No, there is an increase in REPORTED incidents. It’s becoming more difficult to hide”Keep speaking up! https://t.co/p2A18Afu8U
