Cape Town – As the world evolves, children grow more competent with some being able to use digital devices from very young ages while others fast forward their progression and dive straight into driving SUVs.
As the festive season kicks into full swing, many drivers are on high alert, as they fear the potential issue of being impeded by drunk drivers. However, commuters now have another potential problem to be concerned about: 8-year-olds on the road.
In a video that has found its way to social media, a young boy who is barely tall enough to properly see over the steering wheel can be seen behind the wheel of an SUV after he was stopped by a group of people on the side of the road.
When asked how old he was, he responded, “I’m 8,” with the confidence of a teenager.
The senior man who was questioning him then instructed the boy to take him to his father. The elderly man got into his own car and the child started the engine and sped off. As he drove away, gasps could be heard at the fast pull-away.

Social media users reacting to the video were split between those who found it funny and those who thought letting an 8-year-old child get behind the wheel of an automobile was recklessness from the parents.
“so chilled, with his arm like ‘picture me rollin’,” wrote one user with laughing emojis.
Meanwhile other tweeps found nothing funny about the situation.
“This is equally to giving a child your licence gun to show off at school because you are rich and have 10 other guns. The owner should be charged with defeating the end of justice, child abuse and reckless driving (guilt by common cause),” wrote another tweep.
“Hahahahahahahaha. What is going on bro. This place,” said someone else who was able to see the funny side of it.
“Yoh, the way he pressed on the accelerator, in a residential area nogal! Not that I think he knows the rules nor thinking consequences, it’s just all fun to him,” wrote another user.
Another user looked at it from another perspective, highlighting that the father may not even have known that the child was driving the SUV.
“Y’all are goin on his dad, have you forgotten how kids can be naughty sometimes, what if it turns out that he store car(took it without his father’s consent)??? Do y’all think a parent could an 8yr kiddo driving along fr fr?” the tweep wrote.
