Cape Town – A hippo’s unexpected visit to a suburban street in Cape Town reportedly surprised residents on Saturday, as hippos are more commonly found in nature reserves like Richards Bay and St Lucia.
The hippo, which broke out of the Rondevlei Nature Reserve, wandered through Grassy Park before being safely herded back into the reserve by wildlife authorities.
Despite its unusual location, the incident delighted locals and sparked social media posts.
Last night in Grassy Park a young male Hippo from Rondevlei Nature Reserve went for a walk about! @CityofCT nature reserve rangers quickly guided him back into the reserve.
This dispersing male will be relocated to another nature reserve. 🦛 pic.twitter.com/1yxBYCKXgG
