Cape Town – Several homes and businesses between Isipingo and Winklespruit, south of Durban, were flooded on Thursday following heavy downpours.
The SA Weather Service had issued an orange level 5 warning for KwaZulu-Natal, cautioning of localised flooding affecting roads, bridges, and exposed areas.
Emergency responders, including ALS Paramedics, rushed to the R603 Makaka area near Winklespruit after reports of homes collapsing and residents being trapped.
The N2 near the old airport was submerged, making it impassable, while Crab City, Prospecton, and Amanzimtoti CBD also experienced severe flooding.
Amanzimtoti councillor Andre Beetge confirmed that numerous homes and businesses were affected, with neighbourhood watch and CPF teams assisting families impacted by mudslides and fallen debris, Times Live reported.
Some schools, including Amanzimtoti Primary and Kuswag, were closed as a precaution.
Despite signs of clearing weather, officials urged residents to stay indoors unless necessary.
