Cape Town — The Police and the South African Revenue Services (SARS) raided the La Lucia home of South African businessman, Shauwn Mkhize.
In a statement, SARS said it was pleaded to announce a significant development in the efforts to combat tax evasion and criminal activity.
“The KwaZulu-Natal Local Division of the Durban High Court has granted a preservation order and a search-and-seizure warrant in the case involving the Commissioner for SARS versus Shauwn Mkhize and Others,” SARS said.
SARS said it was a crucial step in SARS’s objective was to make it hard and costly for taxpayers to wilfully engage in criminal activity. SARS Commissioner, Edward Kieswetter, expressed his sincere thanks to the law-enforcement agencies — the South African Police Service, Hawks, and SARS members — for exemplary cooperation that accomplished this assignment under difficult conditions.
“SARS will not waiver in executing its mandate without fear, favour, or prejudice, regardless of any persons’ standing in society. No one is above the law; it is therefore critically important that SARS acts emphatically to ensure that all meet their legal obligations. Today’s search-and-seizure operation must communicate an unambiguous message to all that law-enforcement agencies will act to stop lawlessness,” he said.

It is believed that the businesswoman allegedly owes SARS in R13 million in taxes. She is also in hot water with FIFA regarding her football club, Royal AM FC, over an alleged contract breach worth R15 million, EWN reported.
According to Newzroom Afrika, the raid took place on Tuesday afternoon, with locksmiths also at the scene. While not much has been provided in terms of the reason for the raid on her home, more information is set to be revealed as the raid continues.
