Cape Town – More than 900 popular movements, unions, political parties, and organisations have signed an open letter supporting South Africa as it argues its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Hague.
South Africa seeks various orders from the ICJ, including the immediate suspension of Israel’s Gaza offensive, a halt to forced displacement, humanitarian access to displaced Palestinians, and the preservation of evidence.
The UN’s top court has granted both South Africa and Israel three hours to present their cases instead of the usual two.
According to The Citizen, Progressive International is urging other countries to support South Africa in the case, with many expressing concerns about Israel’s alleged genocidal actions against Palestinians.

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has pledged support for the legal team and called for decisive action against Israel, the report said.
Israel denies the allegations of genocide, and the court proceedings are set to take place on Thursday and Friday.
The death toll in Gaza, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry, stands at over 23,200 people, with approximately 70% being women and children, and 59,167 people injured.
