Cape Town – Durban paramedics came under fire during an armed robbery in the city centre on Monday.
ALS paramedics were reportedly responding to an accident scene when their vehicle was shot at.
Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the suspects with their guns pointed at the crashed vehicle along Berea Road, ALS paramedics said in a statement.
“Suspects then began shooting at our ambulance and our crews managed to evade and call for help.

“The staff were very lucky to escape without injury as the vehicle sustained a bullet hole entering the front cabin above the driver’s head and exiting through the rear door,” ALS paramedics said.
The victim, who was a foreign national in the crashed car was believed to have been robbed of a large sum of cash but no injuries were on the scene.
“The scene was handed over to SAPS to investigate further. Our staff are obviously shaken up, but we, as a business, are very grateful they were not injured,” ALS paramedics said.
