Cape Town – The Eastern Cape Transport Department may close the Lootsberg Pass on the N9 due to rare November snowfall and heavy rains.
This comes after orange and yellow weather warnings were issued by the South African Weather Service (Saws).
The Saws warned of disruptive rain and flooding risks, particularly in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose urged caution on slippery roads, especially on Wapadsberg Pass.
“we are keeping a close eye on the affected mountain passes by this unusual snowfall on Wapadsberg Pass on the N9 between Graaff Reinet and Nxuba (Cradock), This rain is also posing a challenge to our road infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. So we are calling on road users to be extra vigilant at all times,” Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose as saying.
