Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged full support to families affected by the George building collapse tragedy.
The incident occurred last Monday, with reports indicating that 81 individuals were present on-site at the time of the collapse.
During his visit to the site on Thursday, Ramaphosa assured the families of government assistance and emphasised transparency in the investigation process.

With 32 fatalities and 19 still missing, efforts are ongoing to recover and support those affected, he said.
“We do not want to increase the burden, the suffering, and the grief that you are going through. We want to be there as government at all levels to demonstrate our compassion,” Ramaphosa said.

He provided assurance to the grieving families that the government would thoroughly investigate the matter and uphold accountability without compromise.
“It will take some time for all aspects of this disaster to be properly tied together… I can assure you that the seriousness in which this matter is being [dealt with] will lead to the truth coming out.
“… We are a transparent government. We are able to reveal everything as it should be revealed. Let us have a level of patience. I know it is very difficult for those who have lost their loved ones to have that level of patience,”
He commended rescue efforts and promised accountability while offering condolences to grieving families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
