Cape Town – Thousands of people from across the country arrived at the Moses Mabhida Stadium where President Cyril Ramaphosa is due to handover a certificate to recognise Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini in Durban on Saturday.
King Misuzulu ascended the throne on August 20 following a coronation ceremony attended by thousands of people at the at KwaKhangelamankengane Royal Palace in Nongoma.
The Presidency said that president Ramaphosa issued the certificate to king Misuzulu earlier this year but the Royal family requested the formal handover at Saturday’s ceremony.

“Among other provisions, the certificate confirms that the King has the powers to govern His Majesty’s area of jurisdiction in terms of custom, customary and applicable laws,” said the presidency.
According to the ceremony’s programme circulating on social media, king Misuzulu would be sworn in by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo while Ramaphosa and other dignitaries will deliver their message of support.

The event is expected be to attended by royal families from across the African continent and the world at large.
The ceremony comes as the country remains on high alert following a terrorist attack warning issued by the US Embassy, however police minister, Bheki Cele reassured South Africans that the police were ready to serve and protect the country.

Cele was speaking after meeting with more than 2 000 police officers deployed to Durban in preparation for the certification ceremony of Zulu King.
