Cape Town – A pregnant woman is among three people who were severely injured during a multi-vehicle collision on the M41 in Durban on Monday.
Reports indicate that 47 vehicles were involved in the collision on ramp to the M4 south bound in the Umhlanga Ridge area.
Multiple emergency services, including Emer-G-Med, responded to the scene where an unconfirmed number of people sustained injuries.
“On arrival at the scene, teams were met with absolute mayhem as reports indicate that a fully laden truck ploughed into multiple light motor vehicles.
“Multiple people were left with injuries ranging from minor to moderate with one pregnant female motorist being left with serious injuries,” said Emer-G-Med.

The woman was treated and stabilised at the scene before being airlifted with the assistance of the Netcare911 to a specialist facility for the definitive care, said Emer-G-Med.
It is still unknown what substance the truck was transporting, however, the Ethekwini Fire Department has secured the area, IOL reported.
According to Kyle van Reenen from Emer-G-Med the latest count indicated that 47 vehicles were involved in the crash.
The report said that motorists were urged to avoid the area as clean-up teams clear the area.
