Cape Town – Police in Gauteng arrested a gang suspected of being responsible for street robberies in Hillbrow and the Johannesburg CBD on Sunday.
In several videos that went viral on social media, a gang of four or five men could be seen attacking and robbing victims of their belongings in full view of the public.
According to The Citizen police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “The arrest was effected after several videos emerged whereby the gang of about four to five men attacked the victims and robbed them of their belongings. Some of the suspects are said to be hiding at an abandoned flat in Hillbrow.

“Members from the South African Police Service and Johannesburg Metro Police Department kept close observation of the gang until they pounced on them soon after they robbed yet another person.”
In a tweet, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said its undercover officers “received video footages of suspects terrorizing (strangling & robbing) the community members at Twist & Peterson str, Hillbrow. Officers proceeded to the said area to monitor the suspects. 3x suspects were caught in the act & arrested”.

These 3 robberies took place in one day. At Vannin Court in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, it is alleged that perpetrators reside at Vannin Court.
