Cape Town – The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) is seeking the public’s help in identifying those responsible for an act of animal cruelty where a snake was force-fed alcohol, believed to be Carling Black Label beer.
The NSPCA was alerted to this incident through video footage but could not determine when or where it occurred.
“The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) has received footage of an Southern African Python being force-fed with beer.
The NSPCA recently took action against Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), for his role in the stabbing and killing of a cow during the party’s 10th-anniversary celebration.
They have laid criminal charges against Malema for violating the Animals Protection Act and are collaborating with law enforcement and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in this matter.
“After a thorough investigation into the contraventions depicted in the video, the NSPCA has laid criminal charges against Malema in accordance with the Animals Protection Act. The NSPCA will work with law enforcement and the prosecuting authority to ensure a comprehensive investigation and prosecution,” EWN quoted spokesperson Jacques Peacock as saying.
He added: “It is crucial that those who inflict harm upon animals are held accountable for their actions as this sends a clear message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in our society.”
