Cape Town โ Following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s signing of the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill, social media erupted with playful posts from South African users expressing interest in utilising private hospitals for trivial reasons, such as trying out the food or seeking treatment for “fake headaches”.
The bill aims to transform South Africa’s healthcare system to achieve universal coverage for health services.
While some posts were comedic, highlighting visits to private hospitals, others criticised the bill, citing concerns about its constitutionality and financial implications for taxpayers.
