Cape Town – Nando’s South Africa has reportedly announced plans to enhance security measures at its branches following a viral video showing a customer defending against would-be hijackers at a drive-thru.
The incident took place at the Nando’s Nelpark in Philip Nel Park in the west of Pretoria on May 28, Pretoria Rekord reported.
The company intends to implement additional safety measures, such as closing drive-thrus 15 minutes earlier and increasing lighting for deterrence, the report quoted outlet spokesperson Nontobeko Sibiya as saying.
“We encourage all South Africans to be vigilant and remain aware of their surroundings at all times,” she said.
Nando’s praised its staff for their exemplary conduct and offered them trauma counseling.

The company expressed horror at the incident and stated its readiness to cooperate with the police investigation.
“This brazen criminality resulted in our customer firing gunshots at the perpetrators in response to the attack. The SAPS responded to the incident and arrived on the scene. The case is under investigation.”
The customer’s actions received mixed reactions on social media, with some applauding his bravery and others criticising his response.
Commentators expressed shock at the audacity of criminals and their disregard for consequences.
