Cae Town – Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube is briefing the media regarding upcoming budget cuts in the department.
The Western Cape education department has faced criticism for announcing the elimination of 2,400 teaching posts in 2025, attributed to a R3.8 billion budget shortfall over the next three years.
Western Cape education MEC David Maynier has cautioned that the national government’s choice to underfund the 2023 public sector wage agreement has triggered a financial crisis for education departments across the provinces.
