Cape Town – South African Police Minister Bheki Cele destroyed tons of confiscated alcohol from illegal establishments across Cape Town on Monday.
According to IOL, the alcohol was confiscated between October 15 and December 16, and was kept at the police storage depot in Belhar.
Cele was in the Mother City on Monday as the annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Tour kicked off.
He joined SAPS and community safety MEC Albert Fritz and other police officials in destroying 20 000 litres of confiscated alcohol.

According to Times Live, the police were awaiting court processes to destroy a further 50 000 litres.
The minister said there was too much leeway for alcohol around the country.
“The liquor that was destroyed was traded illegally. This has nothing to do with the legal shebeens, taverns and outlets. We shall not allow people to trade illegally when it comes to alcohol,” the report quoted Cele as saying.
