Cape Town – Fikile Mbalula sent out a message of gratitude to South Africa after his replacement, Sindisiwe Chikunga, was announced as the new minister of transport.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced Chikunga’s appointment during his Cabinet reshuffle on Monday night.
She replaces Mbalula, as he takes up his full-time position at Luthuli House as the ANC Secretary-General.
Mbalula was elected at the party’s 55th National Elective Conference at the Nasrec Expo Centre in December.

Shortly after the Cabinet reshuffle announcement, Mbalula thanked Mzansi, sharing a video showcasing his time as transport minister.
“Thank you, South Africa,” he captioned the video.
He said serving as a minister was a “privilege”, adding that the ministers will be closely observed to ensure they deliver to the people of South Africa.

“Even those who are here must not relax because we will be looking at them with the eye of the hawk to ensure they work for our people and deliver. Comrades understand that these things (new positions) come and go. It’s a privilege and an honour to serve,” he said.
Mbalula added that the Cabinet reshuffle was not about “a total overhaul or reconstitution of government” but more about “strengthening the executive”.
