Cape Town – Residents in Phoenix, northwest of Durban, were reportedly startled by a powerful explosion at a gas cylinder shop on Canehaven Drive on Thursday morning.
The blast ignited a fire that quickly spread to a nearby scrapyard opposite Foresthaven Secondary School.
Glen Naidoo from VIP Security reported extensive fires affecting multiple vehicles and structures.

Emergency services, including security personnel, paramedics, and firefighters, swiftly responded to the scene.
“Phoenix residents were awakened by an explosion at about 3am on Thursday. The blast gutted a gas cylinder shop and spread to a neighbouring scrapyard. Emergency services are currently on scene,” Naidoo said.
As of now, the extent of injuries has not been confirmed.
