Cape Town – South African International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola has emphasised the need for global citizens to hold G20 leaders accountable for their commitments, following the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The summit resulted in pledges to fight hunger, poverty, and inequality, promote sustainable development, address climate change, and reform global governance.

“Each of them (G20 leaders) was speaking and committing. I think the people of the world will have to make the leaders accountable for their commitments that are being made at the G20.
“They will be a platform next year in South Africa to take stock of the commitments of how far the world has progressed,” Lamola said.
Key initiatives include the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty and discussions on humanitarian crises, including Gaza and Ukraine.
