Cape Town – Residents were reportedly left shocked after a popular fast food takeaway in Fordsburg, Johannesburg – Solly’s Corner – was burnt down by a devastating fire on Tuesday evening.
According to IOL, no injuries were reported but images that surfaced online showed that the entire store appeared to have been gutted during the blaze.
The report said that the shop was known for making the “best” fried chips.

The cause of the fire remained unknown.
“At around 7pm, we responded to a fire incident at one of the well-known restaurants, Solly’s corner in Fordsburg where a number of patients were treated for smoke inhalation and also there were no injuries that were reported during this fire incident.
“At this stage, the cause of the fire incident is still a subject of investigations,” George Herald quoted the City of Johannesburg Emergency Services Robert Mulaudzi as saying.
Established in 1957 by Khadija Akhalwaya, Solly’s Corner was a fourth-generation family business on a busy corner in Bree Street, Fordsburg, the report said.
