Cape Town – The Johannesburg metro police department (JMPD) has reportedly opened an investigation into a video that shows an officer taking money, in the amount of R1 800, from an unknown motorist.
The video went viral on social media. In it, the motorist walks over to the car in which the JMPD officer is waiting for him. When the motorist gets in, he hands over an amount of R1 800 to the officer who then counts the money to make sure the amount is correct.

According to IOL, JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said that the context surrounding the incident is unclear.
“Currently, the JMPD has not received a formal complaint regarding this matter, and under its Internal Affairs Unit an official investigation has been initiated.
“The JMPD is requesting the individual who recorded this video to come forward, so Internal Affairs can get a better context of the incident and that further action may be taken,” the rpeort quoted Fihla as saying.
